Great House in Llantwit Major, a beautiful, Grade II*listed building is thought to have been built by the Nicholl family, prominent in the 15th Century.  The first recorded owner was  Mr. Henry NIcholl who purchased the house in 1480. Great House is an important part of LLantwit Major’s rich and impressive history.

We are perfectly situated for your golf break with ten golf courses within ten miles of The Great House.

You can now enjoy  this beautiful house by staying in one of two guest rooms.  Ben’s Room has a glorious king size Queen Anne four poster bed, a slipper bath in the corner of the room and its own ensuite bathroom.  The Garden Room has a beautiful French upholstered queen size bed and a separate, private bathroom and, as the name suggests, overlooks the pleasant, large garden. Both rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, TV and a sofa bed and can accommodate a family of four with ease. You’ll find a comfortable, cosy lounge on the ground floor with wood panelled walls and a log burner for chilly evenings. A lovely room to read or relax and watch TV which has Netflix and catch up facilities.

Our hearty ‘Full Welsh’ breakfast consisting of fresh fruit, a selection of cereals, Juice, tea or coffee and a hot breakfast is included in the room price. If you prefer a lighter or continental style breakfast of cold meats and pastries or would like to try a traditional Welsh breakfast of Bacon and Laverbread, a traditional dish prepared from seaweed, we will be happy to provide it. We will do our very best to make sure that the most important meal of the day provides you with the best start to yours.

Llantwit Major, an ancient town steeped in history is only 20 miles from Cardiff, our nation’s bustling capital with its beautiful city entre castle and imposing architecture. Great House is just a five minute walk from the train and bus stations with frequent services to Cardiff. Cardiff airport is just eight miles away which makes Great House ideal for a stop over before your flight.

The spectacular Heritage Coast offering stunning clifftop walks along the Jurassic coastline is within easy distance and some of the best vistas to be found anywhere in Britain are just a couple of miles away. The more gentle Vale Trails take you through leafy lanes and bridle paths, stop for a pub lunch or a drink in secluded villages and chat to the locals, always eager to tell you stories and legends about the Vale of Glamorgan.
