Alva Golf Course is well known locally for being a challenging course. Picturesque over the majority of holes, but with many natural hazards in whin, gorse, burns and gulleys.
Being limited to 9 holes for the length of its history, has not prevented many a young Alva golfer progressing towards a single figure handicap on Alva Golf Course. This is most probably due to the course nature, being small greens, difficult lies and the pressure of certain shots being critical on the majority of occasions.
