The Wykeham Arms is a unique 18th century coaching inn, situated between Winchester Cathedral and the famous college. Named after William of Wykeham, the 14th century Bishop who founded the nearby college.

The 14 comfortable period bedrooms, combined with the charisma of this inn will make your visit a memorable one. The Wykeham Arms has an established reputation for its excellent home produced food and is a popular venue for locals and visitors.

Entering the Wykeham is taking a step back into the past. It has a very strong affinity with the scholarly establisment of Winchester College and the curiosities and memorabilla jostle with each other for space. You may even find yourself sitting at one of the colleges' old desks, complete with inkwell.

All 14 en suite bedrooms at The Wykeham Arms reflect on the unique character of this 18th Century inn.

Some of the rooms have four-poster beds - ideal for honeymooners - and the wonderful Bakehouse Suite, located on two floors overlooking the garden area, has a separate sitting room.

Rates are fully inclusive of breakfast, VAT and service.

Lunch or supper here is a real treat - chef Bill and his excellent team serve classic pub food with a simplicity that allows the high quality ingredients to stand out.

At lunch, try the famous Wyk Pie with a bottle of claret from our excellent list.For supper, informed diners make for the new season rack of Hampshire Lamb with Dauphinoise potato. Finish with a dark chocolate nemesis, passion fruit and shortbread Mille Feuille with raspberry coulis or Marshfield Farm ice cream.

After a restorative night in our cosy bedrooms and a classic full English breakfast, strike out through the ancient city walls and pay your respects to the great and the good memorialised in the Cathedral.
