Golf courses near Felin Fach Griffin

Situated between Brecon and Hay on Wye near the Welsh border and one of the country’s best known restaurants with rooms, The Felin Fach Griffin has won many awards and been an ever-present in the Good Food and Good Hotel Guides, Michelin and Hardens since 2000. Owned by the Inkin brothers, it has seven bedrooms and a restaurant with private dining rooms for larger groups.

Just ten minutes from Cradoc golf course and within reach of a number of others such as Kington and Llandrindod Wells, the Griffin is an excellent base for a tour of mid-Wales scenic golf courses or a perfect venue for a night’s stay after a round at the Monmouthshire courses of the Celtic Manor, the Rolls of Monmouth or St Pierre or en route to the links courses of West Wales.

Upstairs, the four standard double rooms have the most comfortable of beds from Vi-Spring. The three other rooms have four posters beds. All rooms have their own baths, White Company toiletries, Roberts radios and Egyptian Cotton style linen. Two rooms can be made up as twins. Dogs are welcome at no extra charge.

The Felin Fach Griffin has received a number of awards for its food under the Inkins’ ownership. Simon Potter has been Head Chef since the summer of 2009 delivering a menu with food that you really want to eat. A thoughtful approach is taken to food sourcing. Fruit and greenery used in the kitchen are from their own kitchen garden. Breakfast eggs are from free range hens running around next to the kitchen garden. Local suppliers provide much of the ingredients for breakfast, including rare breed pigs from a smallholder on the hill behind the Griffin and sour dough bread from a local artisan baker.

As far as drink is concerned, The Felin Fach Griffin remains a pub at heart and the Welsh Borders are home to a number of outstanding breweries, such as Wye Valley. Recently in the top three Pub Wine Lists in the national Drinking Out Excellence awards, the Griffin’s wine list bears comparison with any in the country. As many as 20 wines are served by the glass and by the carafe, with another 80 sourced from as many as 8 different wine merchants who specialise in different regions.

Bed & Breakfast rates are from £60 per person and Dinner Bed & Breakfast from £82.50. Seasonal offers such as the two night September Sleepovers and the Winter Escape represent even better value for those able to visit at quieter times.
