Established in 1785 as a coaching inn, the Argyll Hotel is attractively situated on the main A83 road from Tarbert and lies about 10 miles north of Campbeltown.

The hotel was established in 1785 as a coaching inn and made a convenient stopping off point for the Campbeltown to Tarbert mail coach. Once owned by the Duke of Argyll it was originally called The Bellochantuy Hotel (pronounced “Bellochantee”). In September 1939, just after the outbreak of war, the hotel was sprayed by machine gun fire – not as first thought by an enemy plane but by a British pilot testing out his guns regardless of the alarm he was causing.

The Argyll Hotel offers a home from home friendly family style atmosphere, having eight comfortably furnished rooms, ranging from Single, Twin or Double. Each with en suite facilities, colour television and hospitality tray.

The rooms are fully centrally heated and double glazed, with most of them enjoying spectacular views across the Atlantic Seaboard, Islay, Jura and Gigha, not to mention the private beach only a couple of steps from the Patio.

There is also a comfortably furnished disabled twin access bedroom available on the ground floor, with en suite facilities. Disabled access and facilities continue throughout the ground floor of the Argyll Hotel into the Lounge, Conservatory and Patio.

Try out the championship 18 hole links course at Machrihanish Golf Club, with the first hole boasting to be the finest in the world. It's a challenging course with spectacular views over Machrihanish bay.Argyll Hotel Golfing Breaks

Another 18 hole golf course is that of Dunaverty Golf Club at Southend, with fabulous views of Ireland and the Mull of Kintyre which inspired Sir Paul McCartney to write and sing about it.

Challenging, but suitable for all the family is the splendid 9 hole course at Carradale Golf Club, with stunning views across Kilbrannan Sound to the isle of Arran.

Situated on the shores of West Loch lies Tarbert Golf Club, with its picturesque 9 hole course open all year round.
