Blarney Golf Resort is the brainchild of local Cork businessman, John Kelly and Dublin based Frank McCarthy. Three years ago when the opportunity arose to purchase over 164 acres in the beautiful Shournagh Valley, they seized it immediately. Their vision - to create an internationally acclaimed golf resort that would be a major addition to the golf and leisure infrastructure of County Cork.
To help them realise that vision, they have enlisted the services of one of golf's most colourful and best loved characters, two time major winner, John Daly. The challenge was to make the best use of the beautiful Shournagh Valley, an area which features a magnificent protected woodland and some stunning scenery. The design of the golf course whilst observing the need to avoid the protected areas makes full use of its wonderful location and the spectacular views it offers.
A range of tees ensures that everyone, from the John Daly school of big hitters, to the more conservative casual player is well catered for. Blarney Golf Resort is the first golf design project with which John Daly has been involved in Europe. Previously he co-designed Wicked Stick in South Carolina which has been described as featuring "the Daly tees, in John's image - long with wide landing areas".
